Before she became the “Incense Princess” as many know her by today, Rakyia-Rae Wallace who goes by the stage name “Raki’a Rae” has been doing what she loves through creating positive music and putting smiles on the faces of her listeners. Growing up, she often found herself travelling back and forth between her hometown Washington D.C and the home of both her parents in Jamaica. With her father being from Spanish Town and her mother originating from St James Parish, she quickly found herself embracing the Jamaican culture, rhythms and lifestyle. However, little did she know that this would lead her to collaborating with the outstanding Jamaican dancehall producer, Dinearo, to create her first hit single, Sugar.

The song “Sugar” is an uplifting jam produced on the Felicity Riddim and it’s officially our Song of the Week! Therefore, we decided to ask her what the song means to her. This is what she had to say: Sugar for me is all about finding the sweetness in any situation. We can’t always control what life brings us, but we can control how we react to it. We can call out all the negative we see, or we can focus on that one speck of sparkling light. The more we focus on that light, the bigger it becomes. That is what Sugar means to me.”

Even though Raki’a Rae is categorized as an R&B and reggae artist, she loves to wow her fans with diverse releases and is very open-minded and excited about wherever her musical journey takes her. She is captivating, mysterious, super talented and full of surprises, but that’s exactly what we love about her. Raki’a Rae, we wish you all the best!
